PAS 3: Discover your Personality

A study by American Management Association (AMA) reveals that 44 percent of companies surveyed use personality testing as part of their hiring process.

Your personality is the most important factor that drives the success of your career, your relationships, your health and happiness. To harness the tremendous potential of your personality, it is important to first recognise it and then to gain insight into how it influences your life. Taking a personality test can be of tremendous value. When used correctly personality tests can be very effective tools.

When used to their best advantage they can help you make the right hiring decisions, and improve productivity with your current employees. By using these assessments you can build more effective teams, or adapt your approach knowing that a particular employee is likely to react in a certain manner.

Two Main Approaches

Personality assessments are self-report measures of what might be called traits, temperaments, or dispositions.

There are two approaches to personality assessments: a dimensional (normative) and a typological (ipsative) approach. Dimensional approaches such as the Big 5 describe personality as a set of continuous dimensions on which individuals differ. Typological approach describes opposing categories of functioning where individuals differ.

PAS 3 covers both approaches:

  • Personality Type Indicator (PTI) is a typological test and
  • Alpha Big Five (AB5) is a dimensional (normative) test.
